Overcoming Insomnia and Sleep Problems
Professor Colin Espie is Professor of Clinical Psychology and Director of the Sleep Research Laboratory at the University of Glasgow. He is a leading member of the British Sleep Society and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Colin is a vigorous advocate of the wider provision of CBT sleep clinics, but with this book he has put the remedy into the hands of his readers.
Overcoming Insomnia and Sleep Problems is a self-help guide, based on CBT, and derived from clinical treatments that have seen a great many patients who thought they would never be able to sleep well make huge improvements in the pattern and quality of their sleep.
This useful self-help guide is in three parts.
- Part One discusses the nature of insomnia, and establishes the groundwork upon which Parts Two and Three are based.
- Part Two is the CBT programme. Once the reader’s insomnia is assessed, sleep hygiene and relaxation are explained, and a new sleep pattern is scheduled.
- Part Three discusses prescription medication (sleeping pills), and the recognition and management of other common sleep disorders.
